The PageRank is an algorithm developed by Google, which evaluates the quality of an Internet page on the basis of its link structure and is used in the Google search engine.
The quality results from the backlinks, i.e. those links that refer to another website. Several factors play a role in the resulting PageRank: on the one hand, the number of incoming links, and on the other hand, the relevance of the website from which the link was made. A website can have a PageRank between 0 and 10, with 0 being the worst and 10 the best.
Due to link trading and other methods of manipulating the algorithm in favor of a better ranking, PageRank has become much less important in recent years. Although the corresponding tools for viewing the PageRank have been abolished, it is likely that Google will continue to use the algorithm in the background. Today's current tools for evaluating websites include Sistrix, Alexa and Searchmetrics.
